Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is Airbrush spray tanning and how does it tan your skin?

It 's the newest phase in the application of self tanning products.  With airbrush tanning and the upgraded solutions that are used today, you will not see any orange colored skin or streakiness like you may have experienced in the past with the old self tanning lotions.  The bronzers made today are very natural looking and are made from a variety of vegetable extracts as well as being completely SAFE for the skin.  These solutions include DHA, (Dihydroxyacetone), which works by reacting with the outermost layer of your skin or your dead skin layer.  The results are temporary just like a natural suntan and may last 7-10 days with the proper maintenance to your skin.  We apply the solution with a low pressure airbush and the use of a small compressor.  This allows for a more even coverage than if you try to hand apply the tan with lotion.

2.  Can I get an airbushed tan even if I can't tan by the sun's UV rays?

Yes, you can.  The DHA saturates the dead skin cells in the outermost layer of your skin, where it turns the protein in the dead cells brown.  It does not rely on your melanocytes to be working properly.

3.  Are you sure that sunless tans are completely safe for my skin?

Yes.  The FDA added DHA to its list of safe cosmetic ingredients back in the 1970's and its still there on the list.  Some people get sunless tanners comfused with tanning pills, which were banned by the FDA many years ago.

4.  How is Spray tanning with an airbrush different than spray tan booths?

We use the same basic type of solutions, however, we can make sure that all parts of your body receive the proper application of the solution, such as the bridge of your nose, cheekbones and shoulders.  Airbrush tanning is just more precise and personalized.  There will be no "missed spots" when it its applied by hand with an airbrush.

5.  Is airbush tanning only for certain age groups or types of people?

NO, it is for all types of people and all ages.  Men, women, teenagers and the elderly are getting spray tanned today.  If you are an elderly person or have trouble with your feet or legs, we can accomodate you and make you more comfortable by tanning your legs first and then allowing you to sit on a backless stool for the rest of the tan.

6.  How long does the spray take to dry?

About 8-10 mins.  It is normal to there to be a light sticky feel immediately following your tanning session, but not when it dries.  We can shorten the drying time by using fans and/or heater.

7.  How long should I wait before showering?

You should wait a minimum of 6 hours so that the DHA has suffient time to react with the proteins in the top skin layer.  This will allow a smooth transition between the cosmetic color you will wash off and the DHA color which will remain in your skin to provide the brown tan

8.  What if the spray gets on my clothes?

It should wash out of most fabrics, except wool, lycra, nylons and silk.  A pre-treater is also effective.

9.  Can pregnant women receive a spray tan?

Yes.  The solutions we use are non-toxic, food grade products that are not known to have any detrimental effects to an expectant mother.  However, it is recommended to consult your physician first.

10.  Can your spray tanning solution help with other skin problems or conditions?

Yes, we can help people who have skin conditions such as Vitiligo for example.  We can spray tan the lighter areas in separate sessions to help even out the color and cover the white patches.

11.  If this is a mobile session and you are coming to me for my tan, what do I need to provide the spray technician?

Safety and a perfect tan for you and/or your friends is our first priority.  With any electrical device, fire hazards are always a concern.  We recommend that you have a grounded plug available (GFI-3 wire plug) for us to use that is safe and functional.  Also, a well lit area for us to apply your tan.  It can be a bathroom, kitchen or living room.

12. Are you licensed and insured?

Yes, we have all the licenses and insurance that we need to operate our business mobile or at a salon location.
